CHINESE PHONE MAKER Huawei has told us that its
first quad-core smartphone, the Ascend D Quad, won't be released in Europe
until October.
The Huawei
Ascend D Quad was first given an outing at Mobile World Congress back in
February, where it was touted as the "world's fastest smartphone".
However, it's unlikely to live up to that claim when it finally appears, as
Huawei has told The INQUIRER that it won't be arriving in the UK until October,
despite original expectations for a second quarter release.
A
spokesperson said, "Huawei Device will begin shipping the Ascend D quad to China from
the end of August, and to Western Europe from October."
This means
that the Huawei Ascend D Quad will have to compete against the next-generation
Galaxy Nexus and Apple Iphone devices, which despite its decent specifications
it's probably going to struggle to do.
As well as
having a quad-core processor, the device will tip up running Android 4.0 Ice
Cream Sandwich - which will be obsolete once the handset is released in
October. There's also a 4.5in HD screen, an 8MP camera with HD 1080p video, a
1.3MP HD video calling camera and an 1800mAh battery.
Huawei was
unable to announce the handset's pricing or a release date
