Was the mighty CrackBerry the victim of a drive-by shooting by rival drug lord Steve Jobs in a getaway car driven by Android?
According to Taiwanese animators, the answer is a resounding — albeit not altogether tasteful — yes.
Next Media Animation, which first leapt to the world’s attention with a cartoon version of Elin Nordegren going after Tiger Woods with a golf club, has just released a one-minute filmillustrating BlackBerry maker RIM’s troubles.
The short film, posted to NMA’s youtube account Monday, asks whether RIM is “out of juice” after last week’s announcement of a massive first quarter loss, 5,000 job cuts and the delay of the long-awaited BB10 operating system.
The film opens with the Grim Reaper looking ominously at a BlackBerry.
Among the highlights are an executive type in the “early 2000s” using his BlackBerry to shoot up heroin style in a bathroom, and Apple founder Steve Jobs beckoning a passerby into an alley and getting him to take a giant, psychedelic hit off an apple-shaped bong. (As that last image plays across the screen, an announcer intones “things started to change in 2007, when a new drug hit the streets.”)
The video also features Jobs taking down a walking BlackBerry in a drive-by shooting, and an iPhone-topped tank rolling towards RIM headquarters as machine gun-toting BlackBerry security guards wave their hands in terror.
It’s not the first time RIM has been the subject of some harsh satire. Earlier this year, This Hour has 22 Minutes did a takeoff on Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares called Corporation Nightmares, with Shaun Majumder playing a mousey version of RIM CEO Thorsten Heins.
