Jailbreak iPhone 4S for free and safe

Apple released the iOS 5 download link a few days ago. With more powerful features, I’m sure you want to upgrade your Apple devices to iOS 5 as soon as possible. If your device has been jailbroken, once you upgrade it to iOS 5, it will remove the jailbreak. In order to enjoy more free apps and games, this step by step guide will show you how to jailbreak iOS 5 devices, and this tutorial works for all iOS devices including iPhone 4s, iPhone 4, iPod touch, iPad 2, iPad and iPhone 3GS, etc.

First, you have to upgrade your devices to iOS 5 at first, please follow these directions. I took iPhone 4 as example in this tutorial. Update your iTunes to the latest version at first. And then connect iPhone 4 to computer. Select the iPhone in the left-hand column in iTunes, and click “Check for Updates.” iTunes will then ask you if you’d like to download and install the update, or if you’d just like to download it to install later. Clicks “download and update” and iTunes will download iOS 5 and install it on your iPhone 4 automatically. This process will take a few minutes; you can go away and take a coffee.

Once you upgrade your iPhone 4 to iOS 5, it’s time to jailbreak it. The tool you need is redsn0w. It’s a free and safe iOS jailbreak tooldeveloped by iPhone Dev Team. It has two versions for Mac and for Windows, download one according to your computer system. I take Mac as example in this guide. Download Redsn0w and unzip it. Launch Redsn0w and click the “Jailbreak” button. Connect your iPhone 4S to the computer and turn the hardware off Enter DFU mode by holding down the Sleep/Power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the Power button but continue to hold the Home button for another 15 seconds. You will get a notification from Redsn0w informing you of the device being in DFU mode. If you don’t know what this means, don’t worry. Simply follow the instructions. The follow screen is what you will see after proceeding. The first part has you holding down just the power button for a few seconds. Next, you’ll keep holding down the power button, along with the home button, for longer this time. Again, the countdown will show you the way. Just follow along. Finally, you’ll let go of the power button, and keep holding down the home button for a while longer.  Once in DFU mode, you will see the following screens, appearing in rapid secession (without any input required on your part). Your iPhone 4S should also flash white on the screen for a moment, and then reboot. Choose “Install Cydia” and proceed with the jailbreak. Now you need to boot iPhone 4s tethered to get Cydia to load. Whenever you reboot your iPhone 4S, connect your iPhone 4S to Mac and run redsn0w. This time you need to click “Extras” button. And then select “Just boot” and follow the instructions. You will need to enter DFU mode, just like you did when first jailbreaking. After you boot your iPhone 4S, the jailbreak is done. Now, you can enjoy free apps and games easily.

iPhone 4 problems - five quick fixes

Apple's new iPhone 4 definitely floats our boat with its impressive Retina Display and HD video recording, but its launch has not been as smooth as usual for Apple.

iPhone 4 problems have been reported, mainly relating to reception loss when the device is held in a certain way, and Apple has been forced to address the matter through a statement on its website and an upcoming software fix. Here we'll show you what you can do right now to solve any iPhone niggles you may have.

1. iPhone 4 reception problems

Holding the iPhone 4 so that your skin bridges the small gap in the external antenna at the bottom left-hand side of the phone can cause your signal bars to rapidly drop off, if you're in an area with poor reception.

According to its statement, Apple thinks the problem occurs because all iPhones use an incorrect formulae to calculate signal bars. Apple say there's a software fix coming that will stop the drop-off, but what can you do to fix the iPhone 4 reception problem right now?

Well, the simplest solution is to invest in one of Apple's iPhone 4 Bumpers. These are rubberised cases that go around the edge of the iPhone 4 and will eliminate the problem of your skin shorting out the two sections of the antenna at the bottom left, which causes the reception problems.

2. Can't make FaceTime calls over 3G

FaceTime on the iPhone 4 enables you to easily make video calls, but it only works with other iPhone 4 users and only when you are connected to Wi-Fi*. There are currently two solutions to this problem - the first is to get aMiFi device. These little devices slip into your pocket and generate a Wi-Fi access point to the 3G network that moves around with you. We've tested FaceTime using a MiFi and it works, it's just a little bit more jittery than it is over a faster broadband connection.

The second solution is to use the Fring app instead of FaceTime. Fring provides iPhone 4 users unrestricted 2-way video calling over Wi-Fi or 3G, and best of all it also works with Android or Symbian devices running Fring.

*We expect FaceTime to have wider compatibility with other software once its standards package has been ratified as an open standard.

3. No free sat nav

One of the criticisms levied at the iPhone 4 by Android phone owners is that it doesn't have the free sat nav that you get on Android phones. However, times have changed - there's now a new free iPhone sat nav app you can download from the App Store called skobbler.

It's a free app, so its obviously not going to be as good as the £52.99 TomTom app, for example, but it does the job. It makes use of the OpenStreetMap mapping system, an open source project which lacks coverage in some rural areas, but is improving all the time. It's kind of like a Wikipedia for maps.

4. Your old SIM card won't fit

The iPhone 4 can be purchased in an unlocked state, but it uses a micro SIM card, which is smaller than older SIM cards, so you can't simply pop your existing SIM card in.

5. Yellow spots on the screen

Some iPhone 4 owners have reported yellow spots, well, more like blotches, really, appearing on the iPhone 4's screen. This is actually caused (in rare cases) by the laminating process Apple uses to create the screen not having enough time to finish the evaporation process.

The solution isn't very exciting, but apparently it works - you simply need to wait for it to finish and the yellow spots should go away on their own. If you're still not satisfied then simply return your phone to Apple.

Huawei Ascend D Release Date Delay

CHINESE PHONE MAKER Huawei has told us that its first quad-core smartphone, the Ascend D Quad, won't be released in Europe until October.

The Huawei Ascend D Quad was first given an outing at Mobile World Congress back in February, where it was touted as the "world's fastest smartphone". However, it's unlikely to live up to that claim when it finally appears, as Huawei has told The INQUIRER that it won't be arriving in the UK until October, despite original expectations for a second quarter release.

A spokesperson said, "Huawei Device will begin shipping the Ascend D quad to China from the end of August, and to Western Europe from October."

This means that the Huawei Ascend D Quad will have to compete against the next-generation Galaxy Nexus and Apple Iphone devices, which despite its decent specifications it's probably going to struggle to do.

As well as having a quad-core processor, the device will tip up running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich - which will be obsolete once the handset is released in October. There's also a 4.5in HD screen, an 8MP camera with HD 1080p video, a 1.3MP HD video calling camera and an 1800mAh battery.

Huawei was unable to announce the handset's pricing or a release date
